Dresdner Kreuzchor

At a glance

Since nearly 800 years its most important task is still the musical accompaniment of the vespers and services at Dresden's Kreuzkirche. Throughout the whole year, the Kreuzchor accompanies half of all liturgical services in the famous church at the old market. On religious holidays visitors will often wait for several hours for the church doors to open in order to get a seat.
The Kreuzkirche, preaching site of the regional bishop and the biggest church in Saxony with more than 3000 seats, also serves as the choir's artistic homestead. The city's oldest cultural institution, the Dresden Kreuzchor shapes Dresden's musical life in a particular way through the church year's vespers and concerts.
Moreover, as its most prominent ambassador, it carries the excellent reputation of Dresden as a cultural metropolis into every corner of the world. Israel, Canada, Japan, the USA, South America - several times a year the Dresden Kreuzchor goes on national and international concert tours beyond German and European borders. Additionally, it performs at international music festivals as well as countless radio and television recordings. A very wide repertoire ranging from early Baroque to world premieres of contemporary music has enabled it to make more than 800 recordings in the last 80 years. A constant cooperation exists with famous orchestras such as the Dresden Philharmonic and the Sächsische Staatskapelle Dresden.
