The "Dresden Baroque Quarter" is the name given to the area around Königstraße on the Neustädter Ufer. The quarter was built in the 17th century under August the Strong. Almost all of the old buildings had previously fallen victim to a devastating fire.
The many baroque town houses, arcades and streets have been faithfully restored in recent years. In contrast to Dresden's Old Town, which was completely destroyed in the Second World War, the New Town has remained almost intact. Many different shops, galleries and restaurants invite you to stroll in historical flair; above all, upmarket demands are catered for here with a selected range of goods.
