Dresden Royal Palace

At a glance

Dresden Residence Palace: treasury, landmark and monumentally beautiful.

The Dresden Residence Palace, an impressive Renaissance building in the old town of Dresden, is one of the most important cultural sights. It served as the seat of the Dresden court and as the residential palace of the Saxon electors and kings. Since the 16th century it has had a decisive influence on the cultural development of the city and is one of the oldest buildings with traces of various architectural styles from Romanesque to Historicism. Today, the Residenzschloss houses one of the largest and most important museum complexes in Europe - the Dresden State Art Collections. The palace's collections are invaluable and include an enormous number of works of art and historical artefacts. A highlight is the world-famous Green Vault, which is one of the most precious treasure chambers in the world.
