Kügelgenhaus - Museum of Dresden Romanticism

At a glance

Experience the fascinating world of artists and personalities of the Romantic period at the Kügelgenhaus, Museum of Romanticism in Dresden.

The Kügelgenhaus, Museum of Dresden Romanticism, is dedicated to the Romantic era. The exhibition extends over nine rooms, illuminating the period from the 18th to the mid-19th century and emphasising the cultural and historical significance of Romanticism in Dresden. The former home of the painter Gerhard von Kügelgen, professor at the Dresden Academy of Art, was a central meeting place for artists of the early Romantic period, including Goethe and Friedrich. Opened in 1981, the museum now bears the name "Kügelgenhaus - Museum der Dresdner Romantik" and is part of the museums of the city of Dresden.
